FunShield4Med is a new Coordination and Support Action (CSA) funded by the Horizon Europe program initiated on December 1, 2022, for a duration of 36 months. Its kickoff meeting is scheduled for December 13, 2022, at the Department of Chemistry at NKUA, Athens, under the organization of ELGO-DIMITRA. The primary objective of FunShield4Med is to enhance the Research and Innovation (R&I) capabilities of the Institute of Technology of Agricultural Products at ELGO-DIMITRA, with attention also given to strengthening the project management and administrative skills of its staff.
The project aims to address the disparity in monitoring mycotoxin contamination in imported goods between Greece and other advanced EU member states, focusing on products from the Middle and Far East and Africa. Mycotoxins, which are toxic fungal metabolites, pose significant health risks despite being difficult to detect and eliminate. The FunShield4Med project, led by Dr. Pantelis Natskoulis from ELGO-ITAP and managed by a consortium of European experts, seeks to improve the detection and elimination of these contaminants to protect EU consumers. For more information, contact Dr. Natskoulis or visit the project’s websites.
