The EU-funded FunShield4Med Twinning project aims at bolstering the scientific excellence and innovation capacity in the field of food safety against mycotoxigenic spoilage fungi and mycotoxins under climate change challenges.

The Project

To support the knowledge and expertise transfer and to set-up new research collaborations, FunShield4Med includes a comprehensive research project focusing on mycotoxigenic spoilage fungi and mycotoxins in relation to one main EU entry point for imports (Greece) from the South and East (African and Asian countries).

Aim & Objectives

Research

To achieve the overall stepping-up and to stimulate scientific excellence FunShield4Med will support the formation of cooperation strategies between consortium members to benefit through future proposal submissions and further collaborations of common scientific interest

Knowledge

To achieve Twinning call’s specific objectives for knowledge and expertise transfer, FunShield4Med will implement a set of measures and activities, such as Short-term staff exchanges, expert visits, training workshops, seminars, summer schools, and dissemination and outreach activities

Public Awareness

Final specific objective of FunShield4Med is to raise public and scientific awareness, through its Dissemination, Exploitation & Communication activities, to all interested parties and stakeholders, including industrial and commercial users’ groups, and relevant authorities

FunShield4Med has 5 specific objectives (SO) directly responding to Twinning’s expected outcomes: To level up research & scientific cooperation of participants; to increase knowledge, expertise and skills on toxigenic fungi & mycotoxins; to develop educational/training activities; to level-up administrative and financial staff’s skills; and to raise public and scientific awareness on mycotoxins.
